Kaleidoscope Dyes (formerly Tinctoria)

Kaleidoscope Dyes is an evolution of Tinctoria Designs for me, Samantha Backer. The pandemic brought pivots for so many people and businesses and Tinctoria was no exception. A rise in the costs of fabric, sewing, and natural dyes made producing our own line feel unsustainable. At the same time, I was craving a new creative outlet, and ice dying became my playful passion. You’ll recognize some of the ice-dyed garments as classic Tinctoria pieces.

When selecting other blank items to dye, I remain committed to the same eco ethic that drove Tinctoria from the beginning.  Each piece receives two different applications of dye filtered through ice resulting in a dynamic, watercolor effect which is both symmetrical and kaleidoscopic. Pieces are selected for great fit, laid-back style, and sustainable fabrics. I hope you enjoy wearing my colorful, one-of-a-kind garments as much as I enjoy making them. It brings me an enormous amount of joy to make your world, and mine, a little bit more colorful.
