THE OCF WINS BOLD STEPS AWARD FOR ITS SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS

The Oregon Country Fair was awarded the City of Eugene's Bold Steps award for our efforts toward reducing our carbon footprint and having a zero-waste Fair. Click here for a summary of our application and here for the application itself.
Green Tickets 2008
Were busy calculating the climate impact of our fabulous, fun Fair, and we need you to help us help the environment! Choose to add a $1 GreenTicket contribution to your ticket and you can partner with us to fund one of three sustainability focus areas in which the Fair has one or more active projects underway: Renewable Energy/Peach Power, Zero Waste/Durables and Philanthropy.
How does your contribution help? Your $1 will be dedicated to the project area you choose from the list below. By contributing you become a partner in helping the Fair become more environmentally friendly and we all learn strategies for becoming climate neutral.
Our carbon footprint calculations estimate that with a $1 contribution from every participant dedicated to established carbon sequestration or carbon reduction projects, the Fair could come very close to becoming carbon neutral. Here are three triple bottom line options to choose from:
Philanthropy
Help the fair support the arts, education, basic needs, and local non-profits!
New this year, this social equity component of the triple bottom line is expressed most clearly through the Fair's philanthropic programs. Every year, the Fair gives away about $50,000 through the Bill Wooten Memorial Endowment fund, dedicated to arts and environmental education programs for youth in our home community of Fern Ridge; the Jill Heiman Vision Fund basic needs grants program dedicated primarily to Lane County non-profits, and the OCF Board donation fund small grants program for mostly Oregon non-profits. Help us continue to support these community building programs with your Green Ticket contribution.
Renewable Energy/Peach Power
Help turn the power of the sun into the electricity that powers the Fair!
Combined with ongoing energy efficient projects and use of resources, Peach Power seeks to eventually turn the Fair into a net renewable electricity exporter over the course of a year.Your contribution will amplify the Peach Power fund, turning the abundant energy of the sun into sound for stages, wheelchair charging, water heating and ambient lighting. Join us as we capture the power of the sun to create a renewable energy oasis at the Fair.
Zero Waste/Durables
Help the Fair continue to redefine the three Rs Reduce/Reuse/Recycle!
The Fair has made the commitment to go even further down the path toward Zero Waste and true sustainability by going durable and biodegradable! With durable and compostable dishware, the purchase of hundreds of thousands of landfill-destined plates, forks, bowls, and spoons is avoided each year. Contributions to this fund will increase the scope of durables from silverware to other service items and help purchase washing, storage and transport equipment for durables and compost to be processed and sanitized on site.
